Friday November 15th, 4:05 PM. I remember that moment as clear as it was yesterday. I had just started a new job, and this was my second week. I was taking notes for next week, trying wrap up so I can go home. My Phone rang, and it was Molly. Figured she wanted to talk about dinner. I answered, and Molly was crying on the other end. “The doctor just called, they see a spot on my scans, they think something is really wrong”. Friday November 15th, 4:05 PM everything changed.
Drove home in a cloud, what was going on? It had not been a good year for my family, but health issues were the last thing I excepted. I had just read the book Black Swan by Nassim Taleb, and the main theme of the book was echoing in my head. “An outlier, as it lies outside the realm of regular expectations.” This was definitely a Black Swan, 39 year olds don’t get cancer. Of course we all know the rest of the story.
A lot has happened since that infamous Friday exactly a year ago, some good and some bad. My friend Kathy, who her husband Jeff was diagnosed a week before Molly put the best list together so I will not re-create the wheel 🙂
